When to use it
This verb belongs to the person who takes: you receive something for a short time and you must give it back. The giver's side of the same exchange uses a completely different verb, and swapping the two is one of the most common mistakes at this level - if the thing is moving toward you, this is your verb. Example 2 shows how to mention the person who gives it to you.
